Why should men care about their skin care?

Men and their skin care regimen is very important. Let’s talk about why!

Men have very different skin than women. Men’s skin usually has larger pores, most commonly on the nose area, meaning it is oily and oftentimes has more blackheads. Men’s skin is about 25% thicker than women. In addition to being thicker, men’s skin also has a tougher texture. This is why men and women’s skin care routine can be completely different. Your wife’s skin care may not be best suited for your skin type.

Men are now pursuing healthier, younger looking skin, making it a great time for men to evaluate their skin care routine and learn more about how to take care of the largest organ of the body. First off, it’s important for men to identify and understand their skin type.

Sensitive Skin: May sting or burn after using products. Generally the skin is red and can look irritated.

Normal Skin: Is clear and not sensitive. Usually the skin doesn’t feel too dry or oily and very unlikely to get breakouts.

Dry Skin: Flaky, itchy or rough feeling. This is common for men’s skin to feel very “tight” after cleansing and throughout the day.

Oily Skin: Shiny and greasy, along with clogged pores and breakouts occur with this type of skin.

Combination Skin: Dry in some areas and oily in others. We usually see more oil in the T-Zone area, Forehead, nose and chin, and then drier areas along the cheeks and jawline.

After going to the gym or exercising, it is always important to remember to wash your face and remove the sweat and dirt that has accumulated on your skin after your workout. Since regular bar soaps often contain harsh ingredients that can be drying to the skin, wash your face with a mild cleanser and lukewarm- not hot water.

If you are one of the many men who suffer from breakouts and acne then here are some great tips for you to help clear up your skin.

Wash your face before going to bed. Not removing all of the dirt and grime from your face before bedtime is just asking for a breakout to happen.

Get regular sleep. As you sleep, your skin goes into repair and regeneration mode. Not getting a full 8 hours of sleep disrupts your skin’s healing process, which can worsen the appearance of breakouts and give you dark circles under your eyes.

Find a simple skin care routine and stick with it. Your skin care routine doesn’t have to be complicated! All you need are the skin care basics that are easy to use.

Avoid Sugar. This is a difficult one if you have a sweet tooth. However, sugar is known to exacerbate acne and cause breakouts.

Aging is inevitable. It starts with a gray hair or two, then proceeds to lines around the eyes and on the forehead. We will give you some great tips on how to keep your skin looking young and help the aging process to be a little more enjoyable with great skin!

No matter what age you are, you can always benefit from incorporating a great skin care regimen into your daily routine. A great skin care routine will keep your skin looking better, fresher and younger! Not to mention help to prevent future sun damage and protect against existing sun damage.

One of the most important things that men can do is wear sunscreen daily! This is a very inexpensive way to keep your skin looking its best and prevent sun damage. Don’t forget about the tops of the ears, neck and head. These areas are more common for men to get skin cancer. It is important to keep a close eye on your skin for new moles or spots that may itch, bleed or change in color. These are often early warning signs of skin cancer. If you notice any suspicious spots, make an appointment with your Dermatologist to get it checked. Men over age 50, have a higher risk of developing Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, than the general population. However, when caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable.

Moisturizer is another great tool that should definitely be in your skin care “tool box”. A moisturizer works by trapping water in the skin, which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. For the best results, apply moisturizer to your face and body immediately after showering or shaving while the skin is still damp.

An Eye Cream is super beneficial for guys who have dark circles, heavy bags under their eyes or fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. This area is really thin so it is important to make sure that you have an Eye Cream that will moisturize that thin area. Your eyes will thank you!

Lucky for men, most of them are exfoliating on a regular basis with shaving. Which is great for removing dead skin and getting rid of old skin cells and promoting healthy new skin cells. Exfoliation is the key to younger looking skin. If you have blackheads on the nose area, exfoliation on a regular 1-2 times per week basis is ideal and will really help to keep those pores cleaned out.

Razor burn is something that men have to worry about since they are shaving on a regular basis. Razor burn is a skin irritation that can be caused by dry shaving, shaving too aggressively or shaving with a dull razor blade. A great skin care routine can help to prevent and alleviate razor burn and razor bumps. Using a soothing toner to spray on the face after shaving will tighten the pores, which prevents dirt, debris and ingrown hairs, locking moisture in the skin. Following up with a great moisturizer to use will help with this known problem. Using a moisturizer that is alcohol-free to prevent burning, irritation and itchiness of the skin will help dramatically. If you are unsure of the correct moisturizer to use, then a toner will be a great option for you to prevent the irritations that sometimes come with shaving.

Did you know that it is estimated that around 55% of men around the world have some type of facial hair? Whether that be a full beard, the Fu Manchu or a regular mustache. So whatever type of facial hair you are growing, it is imperative to know how to properly clean and take care of it. When washing your face with your gentle cleanser, make sure to really get into the beard hair and clean it thoroughly. Bacteria, dirt and debris can sometimes become trapped in the hair causing the hair to be consumed with buildup, unpleasant odors and a buildup of oil, causing clogged pores. Tea Tree Oil is a natural antiseptic and can be great for protecting against bacteria. Using a Beard Balm or Beard Oil can help to keep the beard hair shiny, healthy and conditioned. You could also use a beard softener, which is just like a conditioner for the hair. This brings essential hydration back to your skin and hair, which can be compromised depending on how active you are or how often you need to wash your beard.

If you have considered having a beard, but don’t know if it’s for you, then here are some great benefits to having a beard.

A beard can protect your face from the sun’s damaging rays. Men with a lot of skin exposure end up with leathery skin and increased wrinkles.

A beard can keep you warm in the winter. As the temperature drops, your beard can help to keep you warm. Having facial hair of any kind acts as a barrier protection–especially in the winter months.

Not shaving can clear up your schedule for more important things. The average man will spend an estimated 3,350 hours of his life shaving! That is 139 days! Nearly five months! Growing a beard could save you so much time!

Not sure if you will be able to beat the world record, which goes to a Norwegian-American man named Hans Langseth. In 1927, Langseth’s beard was recorded at stretching to 17 feet 6 inches long!

Either way, if you choose to grow facial hair or not, a skincare routine is still a MUST for all men.

A skin care routine doesn’t have to take a lot of time or effort. Creating a routine for men that is simple, quick and straight to the point will make the daily routine not such a daunting task!
